Description
14" (36 cm.) The heavy cast iron cage designed with enclosed interior seat and front with solid cast lock and key, is attached to cast iron spoked wheel base; inside is seated a bisque head doll in dark suit and hat, lacking hands which have been chopped off in punitive measure. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: the cast iron prisoner cages, dating back to Medieval times continued into the mid-1800s, sometime in sizes to hold many prisoners, and other times to contain a single prisoner who could be paraded before the public and yet be prevented from escape. This example, a sample model, dates from early 1800s (the 1890 era doll a later display addition). Value Points: very rare model of historical activity.
