Description
18" (46 cm.) All wooden doll with one-piece head and flat-backed torso, bedpost-shaped head, strong throat, large black glass inset eyes, "dot" lashes, thin line brows with dot accents, angular shaped nose, closed mouth, blushed cheeks, remnants of tacked-on hair, loosely jointed hips and knees, cloth upper arms, wooden lower arms. Condition: generally excellent, some light scuffing on original finish. Comments: English, circa 1760. Value Points: the early doll is wearing her early white cambric morning robe with unusual embroidered symbols on skirt, heavily quilted petticoat with matching quilted pocket, laced stomacher, woven pink straw hat, blue stockings, kidskin fitted slippers, and long lawn robe with embroidered silk flowers. The doll is shown in the book The Heart of the Tree by Rosalie Whyel and Jill Gorman, pages 48-49.
