Description
15" (38 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass eyes, mohair lashes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes. brushstroked and feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with accent line between the lips, brunette mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent, old repaint on body. Marks: 6 1303 dep S&H. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1910, the 1303 model was used for a variety of different characters by the firm ranging from painted eye portrait of Native Americans (see lots 340 and 341 of this catalog) to elegant lady dolls. Value Points: the very artistically modeled doll has pronounced detail of chin and cheek bones lending strong characterization, very fine quality of bisque, and is rarely found in this style. The doll is shown in the book The Rose Unfolds by Rosalie Whyel and Susan Hedrick, page 220.
