Description
15" (38 cm.) Bisque socket head, small blue glass sleep eyes with darker blue iris rims, dark painted eyeliner, painted curly lashes and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accent line between the outlined lips, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 128 5. Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1912, from a rare series of glass-eyed art character models by that firm, possibly under commission from another unidentified firm. Value Points: the model is rarely found, and her rarity is enhanced by superb characterization that is wonderful to find on such petite models, finest bisque and painting, original body and body finish.

Stuart's Take

An extraordinarily hard to find character by Simon and Halbig that was a beloved piece by Rosalie. Her appreciation and promotion of the art of S&H was a decades long process that included even an exhibit at a national UFDC convention where this doll was displayed as a highlight.
