Description
20" (51 cm.) All-cloth doll with firmly-pressed and oil-painted head, thick impasto painted blonde hair with swirling curls, stitched-on ears, painted brown eyes, painted curly upper lashes and one-stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, rosy cheeks, sateen cover on torso and upper limbs, stitch-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. Condition: very good, some body patches, chip in finish of hair. Comments: Martha Chase, circa 1890. Value Points: wearing her original beautifully detailed Christening gown and owning an early patchwork quilt, the doll, named Anna Held has her original well-detailed and fascinating provenance included with the doll and was acquired by the Museum from the original family.
