Description
25" (64 cm.) x 21". Oil painting on canvas depicts a young girl casually seated in chair, her legs outstretched with bent knee upon which she has perched her doll for a little conversation; alongside is a doll trunk with an array of doll clothes and accessories strewn about. The painting is signed Benoni Irwin. An American portraitist (1840-1896) he studied at the National Academy of Design in New York before further studies in Paris with Carolus-Duran, and he was chosen to exhibit at the 1889 Paris Exposition L'Universelle and the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. The painting is in original gilt-finished frame, excellent condition, circa 1890.
