Description
20" (51 cm.) Bisque socket head, blue glass sleep eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, accented lips, four porcelain teeth, brunette mohair wig in stylized do of the era, pierced ears, dimpled chin, composition and wooden fully-jointed lady body. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 1159 Simon & Halbig SH 7 (head) Heinrich Handwerck Germany (body). Comments: Simon and Halbig, circa 1910, the presentation, costumes and accessories are circa 1930s. Named "Miss 1934" by her owner, Blanche E. Eaton of Winchester, Massachusetts, an early member of Doll Collectors of America, the doll was given a stylized 1934 era wardrobe, made by the owner and her friends, some of the garments copies from Mrs. Eatons's own wardrobe, and the wig was permed, braided and "lacquered" by Mrs. Eaton's hair dresser of Charles of the Ritz in Boston. The doll has been preserved in a finely crafted wooden box along with several pieces of furniture, made and signed by G. Wackrow, her stepfather. Value Points: an extraordinary documented doll, her trousseau consisting of ten complete ensembles, as well as numerous accessories and lingerie. Importantly, valuable paper documentation about the doll including journal "Miss 1934" are included with the doll, box, costumes and furnishings.
