Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque shoulderhead with very pale bisque, brilliant blue cobalt glass eyes, dark eyeliner, very delicately painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line, unpierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, kid poupee body with gusset jointing, torso panel with cut-out holes for emanating crying sound. Condition: generally excellent, crier not functioning. Marks: E 2 Depose B. Comments: head by Barrois, commissioned by Leon Casimir Bru for his "Poupee Criante" model deposed in 1867; a rubber ball hidden in torso created a crying sound which emanated from cut-out holes in torso; this was Bru's first depose. Value Points: rare model, beautiful bisque and complexion, wearing lovely antique day dress.
