French Smiling Poupee by Leon Casimir Bru in Rare Variation

14" (36 cm.) Firm rubber swivel head on matching shoulderplate, blue glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with gentle smiling expression, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, kid poupee body with gusset jointing at elbows, hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, 1873, his smiling poupee model deposed in that year, presented in L'Annuaire du Commerce in 1873 as "poupee en peau tete caoutchouc" (kid bodied poupee with rubber head). The model appeared to have been for only a short time as rubber was a very luxury and expensive material. Value Points: rare poupee with lovely expression, wearing original blue silk gown, undergarments, bonnet, shoes.
