Description
17" (43 cm.) Solid domed wooden head with flat-cut neck socket on original wooden shoulderplate, painted brown hair with softly swirling curls, brown glass inset eyes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with center accent line, blushed cheeks, muslin torso and upper limbs, wooden lower torso and lower arms and legs. Condition: structurally excellent, finish is original albeit scuffed. Comments: Sonneberg, circa 1860, the taufling baby was inspired by the Japanese child doll that had been recently introduced at the 1851 London International Exhibition. Value Points: seldom found doll with wonderfully painted hair, original body.
