Description
24" (61 cm.) Poured wax shoulderhead with rose tinting, deeply-set blue glass eyes with spiral threading, tinted eyeliner and brows, shaded nostrils, downcast lips of closed mouth, brunette inset hair in long tendrils, softly-stuffed plump cloth body, poured wax lower limbs with brass stringing grommets. Condition: generally excellent, some fading of features. Comments: English, circa 1880, in the Montanari manner. Value Points: the pretty child doll is wearing original pin-striped cotton faille dress, pantalets, woolen slip with quilted bodice, slip, knit stockings, leather shoes with silver buckles, and is preserved in her custom wooden box with her name, Eliza Uzielli Jeaffreson, ink script lettered on the lid along with the date 1882. The box is designed to serve as the doll's bed as it is lined with padded blue print cotton with royal blue silk ribbon edging and with matching blanket, and the doll owns further costumes, comprising six various finely handmade undergarments, night shift, handkerchief lettered "Bebe", white pique cape with broderie Anglaise, wool stockings, brown woolen double-breasted coat, and black coat with ruffled edging. Also included is a baby bottle in original labeled box, swansdown powder puff in original box, and bone-shaped rattle with three brass bells.
