Description
4 1/2" (11 cm.) l. sac du voyage. Including 16" x 16" shawl with red cashmere center framed by woven paisley borders and fringe, with embroidered symbol and signature of original weaver in one corner; 2"l. red leather heeled boots with lacing and red elastic side panels, incised C.C. on soles; and a sac du voyage with leather covered firm-bodied base having woven tapestry upper section, brass framework and leather bail handles. Very good/excellent. For the French poupee market, circa 1860, the Kashmir paisley shawl was an important symbol of luxury for French royal courts beginning with Napoleon's gift of a paisley shawl to his wife Empress Josephine, and later one of the French fashion industry's pillars during the reign of Empress Eugenie.
