Description
13" (33 cm.) Bisque head with flat cut swivel neck that accommodates to matched shoulderplate by metal pin attachment at crown, plumply-modeled face, painted blue eyes with darker blue iris rims, thick black upper eyeliner, painted lashes, lightly feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with primly set lips, unpierced ears, softly-stuffed kidskin poupee body with gusset jointing at hips and knees, tinted porcelain arms to above the elbows, wearing original sheer gauze gown with shirred bodice and rosettes of self fabric, undergarments, lace shirred cap with blue silk ribbons. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (Rohmer oval green stamp on torso). Comments: Leontine Rohmer, circa 1860. Value Points: very beautiful example of the Rohmer doll, especially charming in this petite size. The doll is preserved in early trunk with label from the Parisian doll shop of Au Bengali on Rue de Choiseul, along with an extensive trousseau comprising four additional gowns, extensive undergarments including hoop, two pairs of sleeves, three aprons, two woven bonnets, flannel bonnet, three or four hats, folding fan, woven slippers, feathered muff, heeled velvet shoes, and Missal book. The doll and her trousseau were written about by Karen Rockwell in an article "La Jeune Poupee de Dame avec Trousseau Special" in Doll News Spring 2003.
