Description
15" (38 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate with neck articulation allowing the head to tilt side to side as well as swivel, cobalt blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with delicately shaded lips, unpierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French wooden fully-articulated poupee body with shapely torso, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Paris, circa 1865. Value Points: beautiful early model with rare neck articulation, rare all-wooden body with dowel jointing, and wearing superb early silk costume of burgundy silk, undergarments, heeled boots, and burgundy silk parasol with carved wooden handle. The doll was featured on the cover of Doll News, Spring 2001, and in an interior article the doll's gown was described as influenced by the Parisian house of Charles Frederick Worth "with the self-fabric trim and minimal use of lace".
