Description
Included is a rare letter from Velvalee Dickinson, dated 1943, to Mr. and Mrs. Wells concerning their acquisition of Dorothy Heizer dolls from her New York doll shop; the following year, the shop owner was arrested for WWI espionage activity. Along with many hand-written letters from Dorothy Heizer to Mr. and Mrs. Wells, beginning in 1944. The Heizer letters describe the difficulty in locating images (especially color images) of original oil paintings which would accurately be reflected in her work, as well as other details of her work, and the sad final letters from her son, noting that crippling of her hands from the intricate beadwork she had accomplished had brought an end to her artistry in dolls. Fascinating and valuable documentation, 1943-1950s.
