Description
17" (43 cm.) All-cloth doll depicting a slender-bodied flapper era lady, pressed and painted facial features, blue painted eyes with very thick dark eyeliner, painted brows, silk thread stitched-on hair under stitched-on cloche, closed mouth, padded armature body. Condition: excellent. Comments: Dorothy Heizer design, the doll was presented in the November 1928 issue of Modern Priscilla as "Flossie, the all-American flapper" along with information of costume patterns that could be ordered to dress the doll. Value Points: impeccably preserved, with exquisite detail of facial painting, the doll is wearing original grey flannel crepe stylish belted dress under matching silk crepe coat with neck scarf and wide fur cuffs, floral decoration at the neck, stockings and gloves, grey heeled pumps, and carries a striped hat box with original hat. In a 1960 letter written by McCoughan Heizer (her son) to Mr. Wells he recounted "Mother has a contemporary young woman of 1928 which she made in that year, that might interest Mrs. Wells. This doll...has removable clothes as did most of Mother's early dolls...and Mother is willing to let her go for $75.00 should Mrs. Wells be interested." The letter is included with the doll.
