Description
20" (51 cm.) Mounted upon a wooden stand is a highly-characterized gentleman with head of textured solid paper mache, modeled smiling expression with well defined crinkles and double chin, painted wide blue eyes, ruddy cheeks, bald pate, painted brown hair around the modeled ears, firmly-stuffed robust body, stitch-jointed shoulders. Condition: very good, original finish which has some minor rubs and touch-up on nose, hands retouched. Comments: mid-1800s, the figure was likely designed as a promotional display, perhaps in a tailor shop. Value Points: wearing wonderful original costume comprising fitted jacket with tails and velvet collar, floral-print linen vest, jabot, bow tie, velvet gaiters, shoes, top hat and carrying cane.
