Description

10 1/2" (27 cm.) Padded cotton crepe fabric over copper-wire armature, very slender elongated face, press-shaped facial features with painted details, small brown eyes with defined eyeliner, brown silk thread hair under elaborately beaded crown, closed mouth, individually shaped fingers. Condition: excellent. Marks: Dorothy Wendell Heizer (cloth tag inside costume). Comments: depicted is Queen Elizabeth I, known as the “Virgin Queen”, by the NIADA artist, Dorothy Heizer, circa 1950. Value Points: the Queen is historically portrayed, wearing original black velvet gown with brocade center skirt panel embroidered sleeves, high ruffled collar, black lace veil, carrying beaded fan, with with elaborate bead edging of costume and tasseled jewelry, undergarments, black satin slippers.
