16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head with very plump cheeks and double chin, small blue glass sleep eyes, painted curly lashes, short feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with wistful expression, accent line between the lips, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed toddler body with side-hip jointing. Condition: generally excellent, original body and body finish with very light touch-up on hands. Marks: 231 Fany (script) A 3 M. Comments: Marseille, circa 1912, the model was inspired by the 16th century Francois Duquesnoy sculpture of a young child. Value Points: enchanting doll, whose rarity and historical significance are rivaled by finest sculpting and bisque, wearing beautiful antique costume and carrying wooden toy horse.
