Description
14" (36 cm.) Solid domed bisque socket head depicting young lad, very plump cheeks, small blue glass sleep eyes, painted lashes, one stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with very full downcast lips in wistful expression, dimpled double chin, composition and wooden ball-jointed toddler body with side-hip jointing, antique boy's costume comprising tweed double-collared coat over shirt, woolen pants, argyle socks, and leather saddle shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: K*R S&H 115. Comments: Kammer and Reinhardt, the model known as "Phillip", circa 1912, this being the rare sculpted hair model. The art character was inspired by the sculpture of the Dutch 16th century artist, Francois Duquesnoy, whose style was revived and highly popular in the early 1900s; his sculpture of a young boy was the model for K*R 115, for Marseille's Fany, and for the early type 1 model of Kathe Kruse (see also #2 and #4). Value Points: rare model with importance in doll history, and with outstanding detail of modeling, bisque and painting, fine lustrous complexion, original body and body finish.
