Description
All cloth with armature body, caricature painted features with "O" shaped eyes and mouth, inverse-shaped brows, wearing original doctor's costume and carrying doctor's tools, with original paper tag "I am a Klumpfe doll, distributed by Effanbee". Included with the doll is a handwritten note that relates a story of its original owner, "In the spring of 1953 I was ill. The first doctor my mother called gave me some pills. When I continued to get worse my mother called again. The nurse said he was out of town. They gave my mother some other names to call...we went to the office of Dr. Rob. Lurie who diagnose me with meningitis and immediately put me in the hospital...he didn't think I would make it. When he came to the hospital he brought me this doll." She was told to talk to the "little doctor" until Dr. Lurie returned. When he returned, she found his patient talking to the doll and recovering. The doll was never out of the box since.
