Description
15" (38 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, blue glass enamel inset eyes with spiral threading, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, light mauve blushed eye shadow, feathered brows, accented nostrils, accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French kid gusset-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent, body very sturdy. Marks: D (head and shoulderplate). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, circa 1872, from the depose registered in French courts in that year; some research suggests the model was a portrait of the beloved Empress Eugenie who was deposed from the throne shortly before time. Her influence on fashion was most notable and she was highly supportive in the development of textile and lace industries in France, which may have inspired Bru to commission a model of her as a doll. Value Points: very beautiful quality of sculpting, complexion and painting, sturdy body, original gown, undergarments, and shoes.
