Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a velvet covered platform is a bisque-head child with large brown glass paperweight inset eyes, lushly painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with shaded and accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. Condition: generally excellent, one finger reglued. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (head). 1 Air Romeo and Juliette (paper tune label on base underside). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890. The little girl appears to hold a fancy wicker basket (which is actually attached by hollow metal rod to her torso). When wound, she lifts her right hand to sniff the flowers she holds, then lifts the basket lid with her other hand, revealing a tiny feathered bird that arises from its hiding nest and flutters back and forth. Meanwhile music plays. Value Points: the pretty all-original brown-eyed bebe is well-preserved, wearing original French couturier costume from the Lambert studios, with lovely music and a charming mechanical "surprise".
