20" (51 cm.) Porcelain shoulderhead of lady with elongated oval face, slender throat, defined bosom, dark brown sculpted hair in center part, waved around the sides of forehead, covering her ears, and deeply looped into a flat chignon at the back of her head, and with well-defined brushmarks, deeply-set eye sockets, painted blue eyes, red and black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, aquiline nose softened by tiny turned-up tip, circle accents at nostrils, closed mouth, muslin stitch-jointed body, leather arms with stitched and separated fingers, wearing calico paisley print dress, cotton apron, attached purse, undergarments, red kidskin slippers. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (Blue KPM mark inside shoulderplate). Comments: KPM, Berlin, circa 1840, the doll was in the previous collection of Madeline Merrill and featured in her 1985 book, The Art of Dolls, pages 83 and 89. Value Points: stunning doll notable for the deeply-modeled features especially of well-shaped nose and eyes, with maker's mark, original body, and provenance.
