Description
Of richly-embroidered gold silk faille, the robe a la francaise features a square neckline, tight-fitting bodice (altered here in long time past to accommodate the changing size of its original owner), fitted upper sleeves and embroidered lace engageantes, beautifully fitted long skirt of intricate construction and with hidden pockets, trailing back skirt. The gown was also featured at the Rosalie Whyel Museum of Doll Art where its original association with the important wooden doll was noted, indicating that the gown of the doll was created with fabric remaining from the lady's gown. Excellent condition, some early alterations as noted above. Circa 1740.
