18" (46 cm.) All-cloth doll with flat dimensional face, brown painted hair in unusual side-parted style framing the face and stitched-on white cap at back of head with ruffled edging, outlined painted facial features, brown eyes, outlined nose and closed mouth, muslin stitch-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: made by members of the Ladies Sewing Society of the Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; the Moravian charity doll, named after Polly Heckewelder, daughter of the early Moravian missionary, was made from 1872 onward; this example being late 19th century. Value Points: wearing original pink checkered dress, pinafore, undergarments, shoes, and bonnet.
