Description
7" (18 cm.) doll. 12" x 9 1/2" box. Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque torso, cobalt blue glass inset eyes, painted long lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line, original blonde mohair waist-length wig, peg-jointed elongated bisque arms and legs, pink ribbed socks and black two-strap heeled shoes. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: for the French market, circa 1885. Value Points: the doll is preserved in her original well-fitted lace-edged box, wearing beautiful ivory silk dress, along with two additional dresses, undergarments, woven bonnet, basket of flowers, sewing basket. The history of the doll is hand-written on the inside lid of the box: "given to Evie Packer on her 10th birthday (1884) by dear ÔDaddy and Mother Quincy' of Boston, at the Home for Missionaries' Children, Newton Centre, Mass. I leave this to my daughter Frances Elizabeth Vinal. Everetta Vinal, Upper Montclair May 1934".
