20" (51 cm.) Bisque shoulderhead with very plump chin and pale bisque, large cobalt blue glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, rose eye shadow, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with pale outlined lips which are upturned at corners in slight smile, unpierced ears, lambswool wig over cork pate, kid poupee body with square cut collarette in classic Bru manner, gusset-jointing at hips and knees, wooden articulated arms, wearing antique gentleman's suit including (worn) beaver top hat and walking stick. Condition: generally excellent, some repair to kid on legs. Marks: Depose (front shoulderplate) B.Jne & Cie (back shoulderplate). Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, the first version of his later deposed so-called "smiling" poupee, circa 1865. Value Points: rare to find doll with very choice bisque, original Bru body with wooden arms.
