26" (66 cm.) Bisque socket head with elongated facial modeling, very full cheeks and chin, large blue glass paperweight inset eyes, thick dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve-blushed eyeshadow, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, impressed dimples at philtrum and chin, separately modeled pierced ears, blonde lambswool wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden loose-ball-jointed body with plump limbs and straight wrists, beautiful costume of gold satin and brocade with lace trim, matching bonnet, undergarments, leather embroidered boots. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: E.J./A 12 (head) Jumeau Medaille d'Or Paris (torso). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1880, the first bebe model to bear his initials on the head, it was offered in two sizes only (10 and 12); a clue to its luxury status was its price in the Paris store catalog which was double other Jumeau bebes. Value Points: the rarity of the model is enhanced by splendid presence, finest bisque and painting, original body and body finish.
