Description
9" (23 cm.) One-piece carved wooden head and torso, black enamel inset eyes, well-defined features, single-stroke brows, closed mouth, cloth upper arms, wooden lower hands, wooden one-piece legs jointed at the hips. Condition: very good, original finish is well preserved. Comments: English, from the Lord and Lady Clapham series, circa 1710, one of a few small examples from that series that are known to exist. Interestingly, despite its "baby" status, the facial features of the doll are distinctly adult like. Value Points: very rare doll with fine original finish, with elements of original costume including pleated shirt, trapunto-embroidered cap, petticoat and pants with embroidered initials E.M., and more. Ex-collection Marianne Bodnar.
