Description
15" (38 cm.) h. x 12"w. 3 1/2" dolls. Presented on a carpeted wooden base under a four-sided glass dome is an elaborate gilt ormolu frame upon which is resting a burgundy velvet cushion with metallic gilt edging and which displays an original wedding coronet of wax orange blossoms. Arranged in front are three all-bisque dolls with glass inset eyes, closed mouth, original mohair wigs, jointed limbs and wearing factory-original costumes. The dolls are posed around a miniature wooden chair on which are laid three miniature portrait tintypes. Excellent condition. French, circa 1890. It was fairly common for a family to add personal mementos to the original globe de mariage. The exact history of this intriguing presentation is unknown, but suggests a loving family with three little children who revered the mother, father and grandfather portrayed in the tintypes.
