Description
18" (46 cm.) Each has bisque socket head, blue glass eyes, painted lashes and brows, accented nostrils, open mouth, four porcelain teeth, brunette human hair, French composition and wooden fully-jointed body. Condition: generally excellent, original bodies and body finish which is well preserved except slight wear on hands. Marks: SFBJ 238 Paris 4 (man) SFBJ 301 Paris 4 (woman). Comments: SFBJ, circa 1915, the dolls were presented as Marquise and Marquis, wearing their original elaborate silk and velvet costumes, each with matching ivory kidskin heeled slippers having impressed mark of a boot and "8 Modele Depose". The dolls have a remarkable resemblance to the SFBJ dolls in historic and theatrical costumes presented at the 1915 Exhibition at the Margaine-Lacroix Gallery in Paris, which was the same exhibition where the illustrious Albert Marque doll was first presented. It is quite probable, although not certain, that these dolls formed a part of that exhibition. Value Points: the rare and intriguing dolls are wonderfully preserved.
