Description
19" (48 cm.) and 20". Each has bisque shoulderhead with slender oval face and elongated throat, black sculpted hair curled across the forehead with a crown of rolled curls that are tamed by a gilt hair band and bow, hair waved away from face behind the fully sculpted pierced ears, and formed into elaborately arranged finger curls at the back of the head, blue upper-glancing eyes, red and black upper eyeliner, single-stroke black brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line, muslin body, bisque lower arms and legs with painted black flat shoes. Condition: generally excellent, right hand fingers restored on one. Comments: Conta & Bohne, Germany, circa 1870, variations of the model were made with blonde hair, another with painted blue necklace, and yet another with undefined hair bow. Value Points: beautiful dolls, with wonderful detail of sculpting, wearing fine matching costumes in Christmas-themed colors. Ex-Berta Hackney Collection.
