19" (48 cm.) Paper mache shoulder head of adult lady with oval face and elongated strong throat, black painted hair looped in front and over her ears before forming into a triple-layer braided coil at the back of her head, inset black enamel eyes in almond shape, closed mouth with accented lips, original cotton sateen poupee body with shapely torso, stitch-jointed body, defined fingers. Condition: original finish is well-preserved with some light craquelure. Comments: French, circa 1840/1850. Value Points: of exceptional beauty and presence, her details include fine sculpting of ears, painting of hair with brown shading around the forehead edges, original body, and wearing an extraordinary original multi-layered costume.
