Description
9" (23 cm.) Waist up wood head and torso, egg-shaped head with defined nose and elongated throat, original enamel painted complexion over gesso, painted facial features, outlined black eyes, single stroke brows, one stroke lips with bow-shaped center, blushed cheeks, flaxen wig, cloth torso, legs and arms. Condition: generally excellent, original finish, paint wear at left throat. Comments: early 1800s, the doll is shown in The Art of Dolls, 1700-1940 by Madeline Merrill, page 7, described as the "last of the so-called English Queen Anne-type wooden dolls". Value Points: all original doll with wonderful expression, wearing original costume including cap.
