27" (69 cm.) Carton shoulderhead with solid dome, oval-shaped face and very elongated throat, modeled bosom, painted brown eyes in defined eye sockets with glazed overcoat to resemble glass enamel, dark eyeliner, arched feathered brows, aquiline nose, closed mouth with center accent line, brunette tacked-on hand-tied human hair wig in braided coiffure under attached elaborate coiffe, firmly-stuffed kid body with high waist, carved wooden hands. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1810, the grand size of the doll suggests its creation as an exhibition model or a special commission. Value Points: very rare early doll is beautifully preserved, wears superb early linen or homespun dress with high waist, drawn-work detailing, with dainty cape, undergarments, and early leather shoes.
