Description
20" (51 cm.) Standing upon a green velvet covered base is a bisque bebe with blue glass paperweight eyes, lushly-painted lashes, eyeliner and shadow, brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, carton torso and legs, characteristic front and back torso humps of the Polichinelle theatrical figure, wire upper arms, bisque hands. She is wearing all original ivory silk satin costume with lace, ribbons and metallic braid trim, including double ruffled collar, silk slippers with upturned toes, bi-corn hat with danging bells, and holds a pair of brass cymbals. Condition: generally excellent, music and mechanism function well. Marks: Depose Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 4 (head) (original paper tune label on underside indicating the song "Les Cloches de Cornveille"). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1890, when wound, Polichinelle tilts its head side to side and merrily clangs the cymbals, while music plays. Value Points: perfectly preserved original condition, being sold from the family of the original owner (see story #38).
