14" (36 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with transitional facial model, having very rounded plump cheeks softening the pear-shape, brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve blushed eye shadow, brush-stroked and feathered brows, accented eye corners, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with pale outlined lips, pierced ears, original soft lambswool wig over Schmitt pate, French composition and wooden eight loose-ball-jointed body with flat-cut derriere. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Sch (shield, on head and derriere) 0 (on head). Comments: Schmitt et Fils, circa 1882. Value Points: outstanding early bebe with choicest bisque and subtle complexion, original wig, pate, body and body finish, and wearing superb rose silk dress, undergarments, socks, kidskin shoes, and fine antique woven bonnet with silk, floral and feather trim. The bebe was showcased in a series of American Greetings birthday cards featuring antique French dolls; one of the cards is included.
