Description
16" (41 cm.) Bisque socket head with solid dome, blonde sculpted boyish hair with defined combmarks, painted eyes that are nearly closed as though squinting, the left eye slightly peeking open, one-stroke wavy brows, accented nostrils of rounded nose, closed mouth modeled as though open with grimacing expression on the shaded lips, double chin, composition and wooden ball-jointed toddler body with side-hip jointing, antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 7761 Germany Heubach (sunburst mark). Comments: Gebruder Heubach, circa 1910, the model is known by collectors as "spinach boy" in a description of the facial expression a young lad might make when told to eat spinach. Value Points: very rare model has extraordinary sculpting that appears as though hand-pressed, with very deep modeling of frown furrows around the eyes and nose, amusing eye detail, wonderfully-shaped mouth, superb bisque and painting.
