24" (61 cm.) The wooden lady has one piece head and torso with pronounced definition of facial features, elongated throat, shapely bosom and waist, almond-shaped brown enamel inset eyes, delicate lashes and eyeliner, arched brows with feathered edging, shaped ears, accented nostrils of aquiline nose, closed mouth with primly set lips, defined chin, blushed cheeks, original tacked-on brunette human hair wig, cloth upper arms, wooden lower legs, separately carved fork-shaped fingers and thumb, wooden legs with dowel-jointing at hips and knees. Condition: generally excellent, fine original finish. Comments: English, mid 1700s, the grand size, quality of sculpting and painting, and luxury costume indicate its original creation for aristocratic family. Value Points: outstanding doll, her costume comprising a richly-woven silk twill gown with embroidered and applique details, thickly-quilted petticoat, woven bonnet with black velvet edging and applique fabric and fringed flowers, cobbled leather heeled shoes, firm-sided purse with embroidery, dainty reticule, and an extraordinary chatelaine whose accessories include a canvas panel embroidered 1735.
