18" (46 cm.) Each has bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulderplate, blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with pale accented lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, articulated wooden body with shapely torso, dowel-jointing at the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips and knees, and with pivot jointing at upper arms and upper legs. Condition: generally excellent, bodies are structurally excellent, one with very light old retouch on body. Marks: 4 F.G. Comments: Gaultier, circa 1870, their duplicate set of antique costumes gives evidence of the doll's lifetime together, likely originally owned by two beloved daughters whose names remain a mystery today. Value Points: the twin sisters are wearing matching white pique walking suits with striped edging, and each owns matching striped cotton seaside costumes, black silk walking suit with beaded accents, white polka dot cotton blouse with matching overskirt, striped jacket with cuffs (one red and white, one blue and white), matching woven straw beach bonnets, as well as various other undergarments and accessories.
