Description
23" (58 cm.) Standing upon a velvet covered base is a bisque head gentleman with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, richly-painted lashes and brows, mauve blushed eyeshadow, accented nostrils, slightly-parted modeled lips with center hole for insertion of cigarette holder, pierced ears, white periwig with formally-arranged curls, one-piece carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, paper mache lower hands. When wound, he raises the cigarette holder to his mouth, inhails deeply, exhales downward, then repeats, but this time lifts his head to exhale upwards, then lowers his right arm. Condition: bisque head and body are excellent. Smoking mechanism functions well. Comments: attributed to Roullet et Decamps, circa 1885. Value Points: a handsome figure, he has very rare Jumeau portrait face with very fine bisque, and is wearing fine velvet and silk vintage Marquis costume.
