Description
14 1/2" (37 cm.) doll. 15" x 9" box. A firm-sided burgundy box has a fitted interior for display of a child doll and four interchangeable heads which are included. Three of the bisque heads have painted eyes, closed mouths, and facial features that are unique to each, and the fourth doll head has blue glass sleep eyes, open mouth, four porcelain teeth. Each doll has original plaster pate, and two have original mohair wigs. The composition and wooden ball-jointed body is wearing original chemise. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 179 (light brown eyes) or 182 (blue eyes) or 183 (dark brown eyes) or 171 (glass eyes). Comments: Kestner, circa 1910, the models were offered by Kestner as individual art characters, or in this very rare multi-head version designed for the doll heads to be interchanged. The dolls are in original box with English language label "Kestner Character Doll" and crown insignia. Value Points: rare and complete series, each model with unique features and exemplary bisque.
