Description
20" (51 cm.) l. 20"h. The thick paper mache shoe in the shape of an old wooden shoe is filled with a grand bounty of miniature dolls and toys, overseen by a petite French bisque child doll (incised F) with closed mouth and blue paperweight eyes. Included are paper mache poupard, lambs, amusing novelty toys, little bisque dolls, boxed parlor games, and more. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: for the French market, circa 1890, the grand presentation was prepared for a Paris department store holiday catalog, likely Au Samaritaine, an example of their unique and exciting offerings. Value Points: delightful and rare childhood plaything, in all-original condition, the only known to still exist.
