Description
25" (64 cm.) Standing upon a velvet-covered wooden base is a bisque-head portrait lady with brown glass paperweight inset eyes, dark eyeliner, lushly-painted lashes, mauve blushed eyeshadow, brushstroked and feathered brows, shaded nostrils, closed mouth with richly-shaded and highlighted lips, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, one-piece carton torso and legs, wire upper arms, bisque forearms. When wound, she turns her head side to side and nods, in synchronic movements with alternately lifting arms and, first, fanning herself, and then sniffing the posy of flowers which she holds, while music plays. Condition: generally excellent, mechanism and music function well. Marks: Tete Jumeau Bte SGDG 7 (head) L.B.(key). Comments: Leopold Lambert, circa 1885, with luxury commissioned bisque portrait head from Jumeau. Value Points: very beautiful face with finest painting and complexion, very deep paperweight eyes, beautifully-sculpted bisque hands, and wearing splendid vintage costume of lady of the court.
