Description
3" (8 cm.) - 7". Each carved head with painted complexion and facial features, the three smaller with stiffened real hair, and the larger with painted black hair arranged with chignon at the nape. Each doll is posed upon original base and is "costumed" in an elaborate arrangement of shells to appear as a fine gown or gentleman's array. Condition: very good, typical minor shell wear, original finish well preserved. Comments: Brittany, circa 1850. Value Points: wonderful variations are enhanced by highly characterized faces and brilliant shell costumes.
