Description
12" (30 cm.) Bisque socket head with slender elongated facial shape, painted blue outlined eyes, black upper eyeliner, single-stroke brows, accented nostrils of aquiline nose, closed mouth with very full lips in downcast pensive expression, brunette mohair bobbed wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, nice antique costume. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: K*R 107 30. Comments: Kammer and Reinhardt, circa 1910, the model "Karl" from their art character series; the model was actually based on an original sculpture created in 1898 by the Berlin artist, Lewin-Funcke, which he offered to the Kammer and Reinhardt firm for use as a doll's head. (The information was discovered by German researchers Marianne and Jurgen Cieslik and recounted in their book, German Doll Studies). The doll was made in two variations: this wigged example (model 107 "Karl") and a sculpted hair example (model 102 "Walter"). Value Points: finest bisque and sculpting on most expressive-faced doll, original wig, body, body finish, and wearing well-detailed original Tyrolean costume.
