18" (46 cm.) Firmly-pressed composition socket head with deeply-defined facial features, textured complexion, defined small eye sockets with painted blue eyes, incised upper eyeliner, lightly-painted brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with defined space between the lips, well-sculpted ears, brunette mohair wig in coiled braids, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, well-costumed. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Marion Kaulitz, circa 1909 who is credited with inspiring the German art character reform movement of that era, insisting that dolls should represent the faces of real children; a near duplicate of this doll was sold in Theriault's catalog The Empress and the Child, #46, albeit with brown eyes. Value Points: very rare doll with original finish and strong characterization including little double chin, very full solemn lips, downcast eyes, original body and body finish and wearing elaborate multi-layered antique costume.
