20" (51 cm.) Bisque socket head with plump cheeks, painted brown eyes in defined eye sockets, black and incised upper eyeliner, lightly-feathered brows, accented nostrils of rounded-tip nose, closed mouth with very full lips in pouty expression, impressed lip and cheek dimples, blonde mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, wearing fine antique blue wool mariner costume and leather cap. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: K made in Germany 11 208. Comments: Kestner, circa 1910, the extremely rare art character model was offered with either glass or painted eyes; few models are known to exist. Value Points: among the rarest of the German art characters, its rarity is complemented by superb detail of sculpting and painting of features, original body and body finish, wonderful costume.
