20" (51 cm.) One-piece carved wooden head and torso with solid skirt-shaped base, oval face and very elongated throat, shaped waist, well-defined sculpting of facial features including heavy eyelids, aquiline nose, firmly-set lips, detailed carving of pierced ears, painted brown eyes and upper eyeliner, painted lower lashes, brunette human hair, cloth upper arms, carved wooden lower arms with large separately-sculpted fingers, early silk and velvet costume. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Continental, late 18th century. Value Points: compelling expression achieved by most artistic sculpting on the rare early doll.
